Stade Rennais are monitoring Morocco Under-20 World Cup winner Yassir Zabiri as they look to reshape their attacking options following the departure of Kader Meïté.
According to the French sports daily L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 club have identified the 20-year-old striker as a potential replacement after completing Meïté’s transfer to Saudi Arabia.
Zabiri, who is contracted to Portuguese side FC Famalicão until 2028, is described as a versatile forward capable of operating across the front line.
The interest underlines Rennes’ intent to reinvest after selling Meïté, 18, to Al-Hilal for a fee reported to be in excess of 30 million euros at the close of the winter transfer window.
With the Breton club now reassessing their attacking depth, Zabiri has emerged as one of several profiles being considered.
A product of Morocco’s Mohammed VI Football Academy, Zabiri rose to prominence on the international stage last October during the Under-20 World Cup.
He scored twice in the final against Argentina and played a decisive role throughout the tournament, finishing as joint top scorer and ending the competition as the second best player overall.
His performances helped deliver a historic title for the Atlas Lions’ youth side and firmly placed him among the most promising attackers of his generation.
That breakthrough has carried into his club career. After signing for Famalicão in August 2024 on a four-year deal, Zabiri gradually earned the trust of the coaching staff.
Upon returning from international duty, he featured more regularly in Portugal’s top division, where he has scored four goals and provided an assist, reinforcing his growing reputation.
L’Equipe notes that Zabiri’s profile appeals to Rennes because of his mobility and adaptability in attack, qualities that could suit the club’s tactical demands in Ligue 1.
While no formal offer has been confirmed, the report suggests Rennes could consider a move should conditions allow.
