Stade Rennais have strengthened their attacking options with the loan signing of French winger of Malagasy descent Arnaud Nordin from Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05.
The move was completed shortly before the close of the winter transfer window, with Nordin set to remain at the Ligue 1 club until the end of the season. Both clubs agreed to keep the financial terms of the deal undisclosed.
The loan comes after the player expressed a desire for more regular playing time, a factor that influenced the decision to allow him return to France. Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert confirmed that the request came directly from the winger and supported the move as a positive step in his career.
“Arnaud approached us with the wish to be loaned to Stade Rennes in the hope of getting more playing time. He has the chance there to establish himself at the top level in his home country. We wish him all the best and a successful time in Rennes,” he said.
Nordin joined Mainz from Montpellier last season but struggled to make a lasting impact in Germany. The 27-year-old featured in 25 competitive matches for the club without registering a goal or an assist, finding it difficult to secure a consistent role.
His move to Stade Rennais offers a fresh opportunity to revive his form and contribute in Ligue 1 as the season reaches a crucial stage, with the French club hoping his pace and experience will add depth to their attacking line.
