Stade Rennais open to Breel Embolo exit just one year after Monaco move

Stade Rennais could soon part ways with Breel Embolo, just one year after signing the striker from AS Monaco.

Atlanta United have reportedly opened discussions with the French club, and negotiations are said to be progressing positively.

Embolo arrived in Brittany on September 1, 2025, and scored 10 goals in all competitions during his first season. Despite that contribution, his stay at Rennes may be short-lived as the club looks to balance its squad and finances after a busy recruitment campaign.

The 29-year-old has permission to leave under a clause in his contract, but Rennes do not intend to let him go cheaply. The Ligue 1 side are seeking at least €15 million for the forward, a figure that would provide valuable room to manoeuvre during the remainder of the transfer window.

Any agreement with Atlanta would also raise questions about Rennes’ attacking plans. Coach Franck Haise does not consider replacing Embolo an immediate necessity, particularly as the club wants to control its wage bill. The decision could therefore depend on the final terms of the deal and the options already available within the squad.

For Rennes, selling Embolo for €15 million after only one season would represent a potentially profitable operation.
