Stade Rennais eyes Ben Seghir loan after Leverkusen struggles

Stade Rennais is reportedly interested in loaning Moroccan winger Eliesse Ben Seghir from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, following a disastrous season in Germany.

The 21-year-old, who cost Leverkusen €32 million last summer after three strong seasons at Monaco, has managed just 15 appearances across all competitions with zero goals and zero assists.

Ben Seghir also missed 17 matches due to injuries and, despite earning 20 caps for Morocco, was not selected for the 2026 World Cup. According to insider Jonathan on X, Ben Seghir’s name keeps resurfacing at the Breton club. A loan deal would benefit all parties: Rennes would secure a quality player for €0 while building their squad for next season’s Ligue Europa, and the winger could regain form in France where he previously excelled.

Rennes, finishing sixth in Ligue 1, expects nine new signings this summer under coach Franck Haise’s new 3-4-3 system and specifically wants to add two wingers. For Ben Seghir, returning to France offers a chance to relaunch his career at a competitive club.
