Stade Renard coach Souleymanou Aboubakar resigns amid winless run in Cameroonian Elite One

Stade Renard de Melong head coach Souleymanou Aboubakar has relinquished his role, following a disastrous start to the 2025-26 Cameroonian Elite One season.

Since the campaign began, Stade Renard has failed to secure a single victory. In eight matches, Aboubakar’s side has managed just six draws and suffered two defeats, leaving the club anchored at the bottom of the league table with only six points. The string of disappointing results has created mounting pressure on both the coaching staff and the players, culminating in Aboubakar’s decision to step down.

Aboubakar expressed his regret while emphasizing the professional relationship he maintained with the club. “In view of Stade Renard de Melong’s poor results in recent times, and despite the healthy and frank collaboration that had enabled us to win the Cameroon Cup in the past, I regret to inform you that I am resigning from my position as coach of Stade Renard de Melong,” he wrote.

Aboubakar’s tenure at Stade Renard had previously seen moments of triumph, most notably the historic Cameroon Cup victory, which cemented his reputation as a capable tactician in domestic football. However, the current string of poor performances exposed the challenges he faced this season—ranging from squad depth issues to inconsistent form among key players.

Stade Renard now face a critical juncture as the club searches for a replacement capable of arresting the slide and stabilizing the team in the Elite One standings. Analysts suggest that the new coach will have to quickly rebuild confidence within the squad while implementing tactical solutions to secure vital wins in the coming fixtures.

For Aboubakar, the resignation marks a bittersweet moment: a recognition of the team’s struggles but also a dignified exit after years of commitment and prior successes. Fans and pundits alike are reflecting on his contributions, hoping that both the coach and Stade Renard can find renewed momentum in the near future.

With the Elite One season still in its early stages, Stade Renard’s management faces a pressing challenge to turn the club’s fortunes around. The next appointment will be crucial not only for the immediate battle against relegation but also for the long-term vision of restoring Stade Renard to competitiveness in Cameroonian football.
