Stade de Reims has confirmed the contract extension of Ivorian defender Emmanuel Agbadou until 2028. The 27-year-old, who joined the French Ligue 1 side from Belgian club Eupen in 2022, has established himself as a key figure at the club, making 69 appearances since his arrival.

Agbadou’s presence in the team has been vital, and he has been an ever-present figure in the starting lineup this season under manager Luka Elsner.

His performances, both on and off the field, have earned him the role of vice-captain, a position that speaks to his leadership and influence within the squad.

Mathieu Lacour, the general manager of Stade de Reims, expressed the club’s satisfaction with Agbadou’s decision to commit his future to the club.

“He is our vice-captain and an extremely important player in the squad, both on a human level and for his great qualities on the pitch,” Lacour said. “He is a natural leader, a big brother, very important for supervising all the young players in our squad.”

Agbadou’s contract extension is seen as a significant move by the club, reflecting Reims’ ambitions and their determination to maintain a strong squad capable of competing at the highest level.

Lacour emphasized the importance of keeping key players like Agbadou, describing it as a “very important message” to the squad and the wider footballing world.

“This extension also symbolises our ambitions,” Lacour added.

“This summer, we kept all our best players.

It is a very important message for our entire squad and towards the outside world.”

Agbadou’s leadership on the pitch and his influence in the dressing room have made him a central figure at Stade de Reims.

His commitment to the club signals Reims’ intention to build a team capable of sustained success in Ligue 1, particularly as they look to develop younger players under the guidance of experienced figures like Agbadou.

The Ivorian defender has been pivotal in Reims’ defensive setup, bringing consistency and composure to their backline.

His ability to command the defence and lead by example has made him a fan favourite, and his extended stay will no doubt be welcomed by both the club and its supporters.

Having played in every match so far this season, Agbadou’s influence continues to grow, and with his future now secured until 2028, Stade de Reims will look to build on this stability as they aim to climb the ranks in Ligue 1.

Agbadou’s extension is not just a testament to his individual qualities but also a reflection of the club’s broader vision.

By securing the services of such a crucial player, Stade de Reims sends a clear signal that they are committed to achieving long-term success while maintaining a competitive edge in the French top flight.
