Stade Brestois step up interest in Moussa Diarra as transfer talks loom

Stade Brestois are exploring a deal for Deportivo Alaves defender Moussa Diarra as they continue their efforts to strengthen the squad during the transfer window.

The Breton club have made their interest in the Mali international known and are hoping to persuade the Spanish side to allow him to leave before the market closes. Discussions between the two clubs could become more advanced over the coming days, according to Santi Aouna.

Diarra is currently contracted to Deportivo Alaves until 30 June 2028, a commitment that could make any agreement with Stade Brestois more difficult to reach. The length of his contract gives the Spanish club a strong negotiating position, while Brest must determine whether a deal can be reached within the remaining period of the transfer window.

The 26-year-old is valued at €2m by Transfermarkt. That figure represents the current estimated market value of a player who is regarded for his defensive strength and ability to operate in more than one position.

Stade Brestois have identified Diarra as an option as they seek to add further depth to their defence. However, their interest is at an early stage and no agreement has yet been reached with Deportivo Alaves.

The two clubs will now have to find common ground over the conditions of a possible transfer. Brest’s interest comes with the deadline approaching, leaving limited time for negotiations to develop and for the deal to be completed if both sides decide to proceed.

Diarra’s long-term agreement in Spain remains one of the central issues in the discussions. Although Brest have shown their willingness to pursue the player, Deportivo Alaves will have to decide whether they are prepared to release him and under what financial terms.

The Mali international earns an annual salary of €790,000 at Deportivo Alaves, equivalent to 513,500,000 FCFA. His contract situation, estimated value and wages will all form part of the considerations as the clubs assess whether a transfer is realistic.

For now, Moussa Diarra remains a Deportivo Alaves player, but Stade Brestois are continuing to examine the possibility of bringing him to France. The next few days could determine whether their interest turns into a formal agreement before the transfer market shuts.
