Coach Éric Roy has expressed his desire to see striker Steve Mounié continue his journey with the club. Mounié, whose contract expires this summer, has been an integral part of the team since his arrival in 2020, earning praise from both fans and management alike.

During a recent press conference reported by Télégramme, Roy emphasized Mounié’s importance to the squad, highlighting his leadership qualities and on-field contributions.

Roy stated, “I have a pretty clear opinion, I told Steve a month or two ago that if it was up to me I would like to keep him with us.

It is important for me, for the group, it will be his decision.”

Mounié, a 29-year-old Beninese international, has been a reliable presence for Stade Brestois, demonstrating commitment and integrity both on and off the pitch.

Roy emphasized Mounié’s influence in the locker room, describing him as “an important reference for us” and praising his sincerity.

However, Roy acknowledged the complexities of contract negotiations, recognizing that financial considerations play a significant role in a player’s decision-making process.

He stated, “In his situation, at his age, the fact that he is free, the best possible contract is perhaps not necessarily in Brest.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mounié’s future, Stade Brestois has made it clear that they are eager to retain his services, having already extended an offer to the striker.

Mounié, whose market value is estimated at 5 million euros, has enjoyed a productive season, tallying 7 goals and 3 assists in 32 matches.

As Mounié weighs his options, both the club and fans await his decision with anticipation.

With his contract set to expire soon, the coming weeks may prove decisive in determining Mounié’s next career move.
