Squash: Seattle and Bellevue to host Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers

Seattle and Bellevue in the United States will stage the final qualifying events for squash at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics in June 2028, the international federation for professional squash players has announced.

Squash will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games, with 16 men and 16 women set to compete in the sport’s first appearance at the event.

The final qualifying competition in Seattle will take place from 6 to 10 June 2028. It will feature 24 men and 24 women, with the winner of each event securing an Olympic place.

Those qualifying places will be allocated after 15 other Olympic berths have already been decided through continental championships and the world rankings.

The men’s and women’s champions from each continent will qualify for Los Angeles, alongside players who earn their places through the world rankings.

The first squash competitors to secure Olympic qualification will be confirmed on 27 September this year during the Asian Games in Japan. One men’s player and one women’s player will qualify as representatives of Asia.

The African qualification event had been scheduled for next February, although reports indicate that the tournament could be postponed until August next year.
