Islam Slimani Shines Again for Sporting Lisbon
Islam Slimani is enjoying a fine run of form. The Algerian striker, key to the Fennecs’ attack, continues to impress with Sporting Lisbon.
Just days after netting in the Champions League against Maribor, Slimani struck twice in the Portuguese league this Saturday against Vitoria Setubal, scoring in the 62nd and 94th minutes. He also registered an assist on Sporting’s second goal, further underlining his growing influence in the team.
This strong club form is excellent news for Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff, as Slimani looks set to lead the line at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which kicks off in just over a month. His current rhythm could be a major asset for Algeria’s ambitions at the continental tournament.
