Sporting Lisbon to Miss Islam Slimani for Nacional Clash Due to Injury
Sporting Lisbon will be without their Algerian forward Islam Slimani for Saturday’s Liga Portugal fixture against Nacional, as the striker continues to recover from a thigh injury.
Slimani, who is dealing with muscle pain, has not yet fully healed and remains under specific treatment prescribed by the club’s medical team. Coach Marco Silva confirmed in a press conference that the decision was taken to avoid aggravating the injury as the season reaches its critical phase.
“Slimani will not be present tomorrow for the match against Nacional,” Silva stated. “We must be very careful with his injury to avoid complications. He’s not fully recovered yet, and there’s no point in taking unnecessary risks. At this time of the season, we need players at 100% fitness.”
The 26-year-old has been a key figure in Sporting’s campaign, contributing vital goals and physical presence up front. His absence will be a blow as the Lisbon club, currently third in the standings with 66 points, continue to push for a strong finish and consolidate their position in the league.
Sporting face Nacional Funchal this weekend, hoping to maintain momentum in the final stretch of the season, though they’ll have to do so without their in-form striker.
