Sporting Lisbon sign Senegal defender Ibrahima Ba for €20m after Strasbourg move collapses

Sporting Lisbon have completed the €20m signing of Senegal defender Ibrahima Ba from Famalicao, only weeks after a proposed move to French side Strasbourg unexpectedly fell through.

The Portuguese champions have handed the 21-year-old centre-back a long-term contract running until 2031, underlining the scale of their belief in his potential.

From failed Ligue 1 switch to Portuguese giants

Ba had long been linked with RC Strasbourg and a transfer to the Alsace club was believed to be close to completion. But, as first revealed by Africafoot, negotiations collapsed at an advanced stage in a dramatic late twist.
