Ibrahima Ba linked with Sporting CP after Strasbourg transfer falls through

Senegalese central defender Ibrahima Ba has emerged as a leading transfer target for Sporting CP after his proposed move to French side Strasbourg failed to materialise.

The 21-year-old remains in demand despite the collapse of his anticipated transfer, with Portuguese champions Sporting now reportedly considering him as a potential replacement for Ousmane Diomande, who has been strongly linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Ba has become one of Sporting’s preferred defensive options as the Lisbon club prepares for the possibility of losing Diomande during the current transfer window.

The renewed interest comes only days after Ba’s expected switch to Strasbourg broke down.

The French club had reportedly reached an agreement with Portuguese outfit Famalicão and the player over a transfer that would have seen the Senegalese defender sign a four-year contract.

However, the deal was eventually abandoned before completion. Reports indicated that concerns raised during Ba’s medical examination prevented the move from going ahead.

That explanation has since been challenged by the player’s representatives, with his agent disputing claims that the transfer failed because of issues discovered during the medical assessment.

Although the proposed move to Ligue 1 did not proceed, Ba’s reputation has remained intact following an impressive campaign with Famalicão.

His performances in Portugal have continued to attract attention from clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options, and Sporting now appear ready to enter the race for his signature.

Ba began his football journey with AJEL Rufisque before moving to Portugal, where he developed into one of the promising young defenders in the league.

Should Diomande complete his expected departure, Sporting are understood to view Ba as one of the strongest candidates to reinforce their back line ahead of the new season.

For the player, the interest from Sporting offers the possibility of another opportunity to secure a high-profile move despite the disappointment of seeing his Strasbourg transfer collapse.

His immediate future remains unresolved, but with Sporting closely monitoring the situation, Ba could soon have the chance to continue his career at one of Portugal’s biggest clubs.
