The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant new sponsorship partnership with German tire manufacturer Continental. The agreement, unveiled on Monday in Cairo, marks a long-term collaboration that will span the next five years and covers multiple facets of African football.
The signing ceremony took place in Egypt’s capital, where Anthony Baffoe, CAF’s Deputy Secretary General, and Jon Ander Garcia, Continental’s Head of Africa and the Middle East, formalized the partnership. Both parties expressed optimism about the benefits of the agreement, highlighting its potential to strengthen the promotion and development of African football at both national and continental levels.
Under the terms of the deal, Continental will become a major sponsor of the Africa Cup of Nations, including the qualification tournaments leading up to the main event. This marks a significant commitment from the German company, which has a global presence in sports sponsorships and has previously supported major sporting events across Europe and Africa. By aligning with CAF, Continental aims to enhance its visibility on the continent while contributing to the growth and exposure of African football.
Although the financial terms of the contract have not been publicly disclosed, the partnership is expected to provide CAF with additional resources to support the organization of the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as initiatives aimed at developing football infrastructure and youth programs across Africa. Sponsorship agreements of this nature often include branding opportunities at stadiums, official merchandise, media campaigns, and other promotional activities, all of which help elevate the profile of both the tournament and the sponsor.
The deal will take effect starting with the next Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to be hosted by Egypt. This timing is strategic, as it allows Continental to be associated with one of the continent’s most prestigious sporting events from the outset, gaining maximum exposure among fans, players, and media worldwide. CAF has consistently sought partnerships that can help elevate the standard and visibility of African football, and the Continental deal represents a continuation of that approach.
CAF’s Deputy Secretary General, Anthony Baffoe, highlighted the importance of securing long-term partnerships with international companies, stating that such collaborations are essential for the sustainable development of football on the continent. He emphasized that sponsors like Continental not only provide financial support but also bring credibility and global attention to African competitions.
For Continental, the agreement reinforces its commitment to supporting major sporting events globally and demonstrates its interest in investing in African markets. The sponsorship will allow the brand to engage with millions of football fans across the continent, leveraging the passion and popularity of the Africa Cup of Nations to strengthen its presence and connect with consumers.
As the partnership begins, both CAF and Continental are expected to collaborate closely on initiatives that promote the tournament, enhance fan experiences, and support the continued growth of football in Africa. The agreement sets the stage for a mutually beneficial relationship that combines the prestige of African football with the global reach and resources of an established multinational brand.
