The assistant manager of Olympique Lyon, Jorge Maciel has heaped praise on Algerian midfielder Rayan Cherki following his impact in the team’s 2-0 win against OGC Nice over the weekend.
In the French Ligue 1 encounter played on Sunday night, Cherki climbed from the bench in the second half and scored almost immediately to inspire his team to the victory.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Lyon assistant manager Jorge Maciel described the Algerian player born in France as a special player.
He argued that there is no doubt that Cherki is one of the best players in the French Ligue 1.
“It is important to understand that Rayan is a very special player with incredible talent, but one who benefits greatly from the collective. He is one of the best passers in the league,” Jorge Maciel said.
Rayan Cherki has been a standout player for Olympique Lyon in the 2024/25 football season.
He currently leads the assist chart in the league with nine assists. He also has six goals to his name.
