Spanish-Moroccan winger Lamine Yamal reveals Barcelona squad teased Fermin Lopez over Manchester United and Chelsea bids
Barcelona’s emerging talents continue to attract attention from Europe’s elite, and the latest revelation has come from teenager Lamine Yamal.
The 18-year-old winger disclosed that teammates playfully teased midfielder Fermin Lopez after learning of approaches from Manchester United and Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
Despite the Premier League giants’ interest, Lopez said he never considered leaving Barcelona.
Yamal, who was born in Spain to a Moroccan father and Equatorial Guinean mother, has quickly become a central figure for both club and country.
His standing within the squad has also allowed him to share light-hearted moments behind the scenes, including the exchanges with Lopez following reports of English bids.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea approached Barcelona about signing the 22-year-old midfielder earlier in the summer. Despite the offers, Lopez remained committed to the Catalan club, a decision Yamal said was never in doubt.
“We were joking with Fermin about moving to England,” Yamal told reporters. “But he’s happy at Barcelona. No one wants to leave. We asked him about that bid from England but Fermin said he’s happy here. He had no plans to leave.”
Lopez, a product of La Masia, has been increasingly trusted by Barcelona’s technical team after impressing in his breakthrough campaign.
His energy, pressing, and versatility in midfield have drawn attention from scouts across Europe, but the youngster has consistently emphasised his desire to establish himself at Barça.
The revelation of dressing-room banter highlights both the unity within the squad and the growing external pressure on Barcelona’s emerging talents.
