Spanish-born defender of Moroccan descent, Adam Aznou, has opened up abouthis engagement with Nico Williams before his unsuccessful move to Bayern Munich.
Speaking in a Twitch interview, Aznou said he messaged the Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent after learning that he was a transfer target of the German Bundesliga champions.
“I followed him and thought to myself: he might really be coming,” Aznou said and added, “I sent him a message and he responded.”
While Aznou chose not to disclose the full details of their exchange, it is believed their chat touched on the potential transfer.
However, it has since been widely reported that Williams turned down Bayern Munich and instead agreed to join FC Barcelona.
The transfer fee is said to be around €60 million, though the Catalan club is still navigating Financial Fair Play restrictions.
Aznou, taking the news in stride, joked: “I don’t think my message ruined Bayern’s chances of signing him. But when I saw that he was probably going to Barca, I thought, ‘Damn, that can’t be true.’ Then I told myself, ‘That’s not my job. I’ll focus on other things.’”
It has become clear in the last 24 hours that Nico Williams has decided to join FC Barcelona.
The La Liga champions are currently in talks with Athletic Club, trying to agree on a transfer fee.
