The Spanish league is considering postponing the next round of fixtures in both the first and second divisions following the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel.
Mundo Deportivo reports that the Spanish football authorities held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss whether the upcoming round should be delayed. A final decision is expected within the next few hours, with clubs due to be informed officially.
The league has already postponed Tenerife’s match against Granada and the fixture between Andorra and Real Mallorca following De Miguel’s death at the age of 30.
De Miguel died on Tuesday morning, 3 November, after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest during Tenerife’s game against Andorra on Monday at the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium.
The forward was involved in a heavy collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owona during the closing stages of the match. Medical staff immediately attended to him before he was taken to hospital, but his death was announced the following day.
De Miguel’s funeral and burial are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 5 November, in Navahermosa, in the province of Toledo, where his family comes from.
