Spain international of Ghanaian descent Nico Williams has hinted about his future as the summer transfer window approaches.
Williams has been a subject of interest several clubs for a longer period due to his outstanding performance for club and country. The talented winger came close to joining Barcelona last summer but the deal fell through.
The 22-year-old attacker, who has five goals and five assists in the La Liga for Athletic Bilbao remains a target for clubs including Arsenal heading into the summer.
But it appears Williams could turn down offers to stay with his boyhood club, who are closing in on Champions League qualification.
Athletic Bilbao are positioned in the Champions League zone in La Liga, and are aiming for the European cup final after securing a semifinals spot.
Williams has yet to play in the Champions League, and the chance to reach it with his hometown club might prove more important to him than a move to the Premier League.
“Every kid dreams of playing at Old Trafford. We have a goal—to win the Europa League, and next season—to make a mark in the Champions League. Step by step. We are playing good football and must continue to reach the final. Our team is incredible. San Mamés deserves this victory” he said.
His contract, extended in December 2023, runs until 2027, making the upcoming summer the last chance for the club to profit from a transfer. However, Williams’ transfer is now in question following recent comment.
