Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams, has reportedly informed Bayern Munich that he will not be joining the club this summer.
The Bundesliga champions had pursued the Athletic Bilbao star for an extended period, having also faced competition from Barcelona in the summer of 2024.
Though Williams remained in the Basque Country at the time, Barcelona have now revived their interest.
On Wednesday, Africasoccer reported that Nico Williams had stopped talking to Bayern Munich as he only wished to move to Barcelona.
Today, Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg has further confirmed that Williams has rejected Bayern’s advances within the past 48 hours.
Despite the German club’s renewed efforts to change his mind, the player has made his decision clear.
A verbal agreement has already been reached between Williams and Barcelona, with club president Joan Laporta driving the move forward.
Barcelona are now working to raise the funds to facilitate the signing of the Athletic Club forward.
Checks have revealed that the La Liga Champions will need to sell some players to be in the best financial position to complete the deal.
