Spanish forward of Ghanaian heritage Nico Williams is reportedly open to considering a move to Bayern Munich when the next summer transfer window opens, just months after committing his long-term future to his boyhood club.
Despite sustained interest from Bayern and FC Barcelona, Williams opted to extend his contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2035, a decision that was widely viewed as a strong statement of loyalty.
However, that commitment now appears less ironclad, with fresh reports suggesting the 30-cap Spain international is reassessing his options.
According to Teamtalk, the winger is seriously contemplating a high-profile move next summer, with ambitions of testing himself at one of Europe’s elite clubs. His name has already been circulated to several heavyweights, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, via intermediaries exploring potential openings.
The major stumbling block, however, remains the financial side of any deal. Williams’ recently signed contract reportedly includes a release clause in the region of €100 million, a figure that could cool enthusiasm even among Europe’s biggest spenders.
For Bayern, the situation is further complicated by squad dynamics, with questions over whether such an investment makes sense for a player who may initially find himself competing for minutes behind established options like Luis Díaz.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Williams’ performances and intentions, with the coming months likely to determine whether his long-term stay in Bilbao endures or gives way to a long-awaited move to one of Europe’s powerhouses.
