Spanish outfit Athletic Club have officially announced that star winger Nico Williams has signed a long-term contract extension, tying him to the club until June 30, 2035.
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 15, the Spanish club confirmed the agreement, calling it a “strong bond” between the talented winger and the Basque side.
“Nico Williams signs his strong bond with Athletic,” the club wrote, adding that the new deal marks the longest-lasting agreement ever signed by a first-team player.
The extension adds eight years to his existing contract and reaffirms Nico’s commitment to the club despite heavy interest from top European sides, including FC Barcelona.
The contract signing ceremony took place at San Mamés and was attended by Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte, director of football Mikel González, and Nico’s older brother and club captain, Iñaki Williams.
Their mother, María Arthuer, was also present for the emotional moment.
Speaking on his future, Nico expressed his desire to “continue making history with the club of my life,” as he follows in the footsteps of his brother Iñaki, who has spent his entire career at Athletic Club.
With this extension, the 22-year-old winger known for his pace, flair, and charisma solidifies his role as a cornerstone of the club’s long-term vision and project.
He has gradually become a key man for the club based in Bilbao.
