Former Athletic Bilbao star Raul Garcia has expressed confidence that Iñaki Williams will soon hit his stride with the Ghana national team.
Williams, who switched allegiance to the Black Stars in 2022 after being born and raised in Spain’s Basque region, made his debut in a friendly against Brazil in September of that year.
However, the 30-year-old forward has struggled to replicate his club form on the international stage, netting just once in 21 appearances for the four-time African champions.
At club level, Williams has been a pivotal figure for Athletic Bilbao, playing a key role in their Copa del Rey triumph after a 40-year drought and winning two Spanish Super Cups.
“Obviously, the circumstances of having brand new colleagues, and not really being adapted to the team doesn’t make the situation any easier. As you say, he’s playing in the north of Spain and we’ve all known each other for many years so it makes it easier.
“But I’m sure Inaki will achieve wonderful results and he is aware that he has to forge ahead and I am sure he will find form in the team soon enough.”
This season, Williams has continued his stellar club form, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 18 La Liga games, with Athletic Club comfortably in fourth place.
