The Levante – Atletico Madrid match (2-0) witnessed regrettable incidents yesterday. After the game, Pape Kouly Diop, the Senegalese midfielder from Levante, performed a special dance in front of the Madrid supporters’ stand. This was his response to being subjected to insults throughout the match.
UEFA has expressed its strong condemnation of these racist incidents. Pedro Pinto, the official spokesperson for UEFA, stated on Twitter, “UEFA and its president Michel Platini strongly condemn all forms of discrimination, including the recent racist attitude of supporters in Spain.” He emphasized UEFA’s strict rules and sanctions against all forms of discrimination in their competitions. Pinto also noted that when such incidents occur outside UEFA’s jurisdiction, they support appropriate actions by the relevant authorities.
