Spain target 2030 World Cup final as bid for Morocco-hosted showpiece gathers pace

Spain has made hosting the 2030 World Cup final a clear objective, with Royal Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan saying the country is capable of staging the tournament’s most important match.

The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, but Louzan believes the final should be held in Spain.

Speaking to Onda Cero before Spain’s Nations League meeting with England at Wembley, Louzan said Spain would “carry the weight” of the tournament through its 11 host cities.

“Everything started on the Iberian Peninsula, and it should end there, with that great final in Spain,” he said.

Louzan acknowledged that securing the final would require “a lot of work”. He said the federation’s immediate aim was to “gather the votes” needed to stage what he described as “the best World Cup in history”.

The 2030 tournament will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup.

Morocco is also among the three co-hosts, meaning the location of the final is expected to be a major issue in preparations for the competition. Louzan’s comments represent Spain’s public push to secure the headline fixture.

The federation president also praised Spain manager Luis de la Fuente after his contract was extended until 2032.

“We are extremely happy with this decision and this partnership,” said Louzan, who highlighted the manager’s humility and argued that he deserved the Golden Ball award for coaches.

Louzan pointed to De la Fuente’s record with Spain, which includes winning Euro 2024, the 2025 Nations League and the 2026 World Cup.

He also praised the recent achievements of Spain’s national teams, describing the country as experiencing an “unprecedented sporting moment”.

“From the point of view of success, we are at the top of everyone,” he said.

Louzan was referring to Spain’s men’s and women’s teams winning the most recent editions of their respective World Cups.
