Real Madrid Drop Points Again in La Liga Title Race After 1-1 Draw with Valladolid
Real Madrid’s hopes of maintaining a strong grip on the La Liga title suffered another blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Valladolid in a postponed fixture on Wednesday. After a frustrating 2-2 draw with Valencia on Sunday, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were hoping to bounce back, but once again dropped points in the race for the Spanish league crown.
Valladolid, who are battling to avoid relegation, played with great determination, and despite being second-best for much of the match, they were resolute in defense and efficient in attack. Real Madrid were also dealt a significant blow early in the match with the injury of Cristiano Ronaldo, who was forced off after a brief spell on the pitch.
Despite the setback, Real Madrid took the lead in the 43rd minute with a stunning free-kick from Sergio Ramos, which gave the visitors a slender advantage going into the break.
However, Valladolid came out strong after the restart, and their persistence paid off in the 85th minute when Javi Moyano’s cross found José Ángel Esmorís, who leveled the score with a clinical finish.
The result leaves Real Madrid in a precarious position, with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid now in control of the title race as the final stretch of the season looms.
