The Spanish Football Federation has officially announced a high-profile international friendly between Spain and Egypt, as both nations continue their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will host.
In a statement released on Monday, the federation confirmed that the two sides will meet during the upcoming international break, with the match scheduled for March 30.
The friendly will be staged in Qatar as part of Spain’s international programme for the window.
“The Spanish national team will face their Egyptian counterparts in an international friendly match on March 30 in Qatar. The match will be held at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium and will kick off at 6:00 PM Spanish time (7:00 PM Egyptian time). This comes three days after the Spain-Argentina match, which will also be held in Qatar, but at the Lusail Stadium,” the statement read.
The encounter will mark only the second meeting between Spain and Egypt at senior international level.
Their sole previous clash dates back to June 3, 2006, when Spain secured a 2-0 victory in a friendly played at the Martinez Valero Stadium in Elche, with goals coming from Raul and Jose Antonio Reyes.
The March 30 fixture offers both sides an opportunity to test their squads against top-level opposition as they build towards the World Cup, with kick-off scheduled for 6 pm Egyptian time and 7 pm in Saudi Arabia.
