Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has reiterated his stance on Brahim Diaz’s decision to represent Morocco instead of Spain, stressing that such choices are personal and must be fully respected.
He underlined that this kind of debate should not be blown out of proportion around any player.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, De la Fuente explained that national team allegiance is a matter that belongs to the players themselves. From his point of view, every footballer has the right to choose the path that best serves his career and ambitions.
The Spain boss said: “We must respect the players’ choices. Brahim Diaz decided to join the Moroccan national team, and this is a personal decision that should be respected.” sending a clear message to end the controversy surrounding the Real Madrid playmaker’s choice, especially after his recent impressive performances with the Atlas Lions.
De la Fuente’s calm, measured comments aim to cool tensions and shift the focus back to football rather than off‑field debates about loyalty and identity.
Diaz has been a key player for host Morocco in the AFCON 2025. The Real Madrid playmaker has scored three goals in the ongoing tournament.
