Southampton Hit by Injuries as Victor Wanyama Out for a Month
Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is expected to be sidelined for at least a month after sustaining a thigh injury during Wednesday’s 1-0 FA Cup replay win over Ipswich. The Kenyan player was hurt before halftime, although manager Ronald Koeman had planned to substitute him at the break as a precaution.
Koeman also criticized the congested fixture schedule, calling the replay system “madness” amid a demanding season.
Currently third in the Premier League, Southampton is grappling with a series of injury setbacks. French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is out with a right adductor strain and is expected to miss three to four weeks, according to Koeman. Defender Toby Alderweireld will also be sidelined for a similar duration.
Adding to the squad’s challenges, the club is without Sadio Mané, who has joined the Senegal national team to participate in the African Cup of Nations.
