Emmanuel Mayuka Faces Season-Ending Injury Blow at Southampton
Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka may not feature again for Southampton this season due to an injury sustained during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The Chipolopolo forward picked up the problem — an adductor injury — during Zambia’s second group stage match against Tunisia.
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that Mayuka is still struggling with pain and could be forced to undergo surgery. If that happens, the 24-year-old is unlikely to recover in time to play again this campaign.
“If surgery is required, Mayuka will be out until the end of the season,” said Koeman.
Mayuka’s injury is a setback both for club and country, especially as he had been hoping to break into Southampton’s first team more consistently. The striker has found playing time limited in the Premier League and was hoping that a solid showing at AFCON 2015 would revive his club prospects — a plan now put on hold by this unfortunate injury.
