Southampton manager Russell Martin commended Paul Onuachu for his strong performance in their narrow 3-2 loss to Liverpool on Sunday.
Onuachu, making his first start of the season, posed a consistent challenge to Liverpool’s defenders with his sharp link-up play and physical presence.
However, the Nigerian forward was substituted in the 52nd minute due to an injury, which Martin hopes is not severe.
Paul probably deserved to start earlier with the way he’s trained – he’s been so good.
He was really good, so I hope his injury isn’t serious.
It’s just a bit of fatigue, Martin remarked post-match.
The 30-year-old has featured in six league games this season for the Saints, showing promise in limited opportunities.
