South Sudan claimed a crucial 3-2 victory over Rwanda in the first leg of the second round of qualifiers for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), taking an important step towards securing a spot in the tournament’s final phase.

The closely contested match saw South Sudan assert early dominance, with the team building on a strong performance from their initial 2-0 win in the first leg.

Their third goal of the qualifiers appeared to solidify control, but Rwanda staged an impressive comeback, reducing the deficit with two quick strikes before the half-time whistle.

The second half unfolded as a tense affair, with both teams pressing for goals.

South Sudan managed to hold off Rwanda’s determined attacks, ensuring their slender lead remained intact at the final whistle.

While South Sudan celebrated their victory, the result left the tie finely balanced ahead of the return leg.

The decisive second leg, scheduled for December 28, is expected to be an intense encounter as both sides aim for qualification.

South Sudan will look to capitalize on their narrow lead, while Rwanda will be determined to overturn the deficit and keep their CHAN 2024 hopes alive.
