Gabon endured a heavy defeat in their opening match of the Sud Ladies Cup on Wednesday, losing 7-0 to Haiti. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Panthers held firm during the first half, keeping the match scoreless at halftime.
The second half, however, saw Haiti take control. Abaina Louis scored four goals, while Etienne, Florsie-Love Darlina Joseph, and Ibogni Mouity also found the net, securing a comprehensive victory for the Caribbean side.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Japan secured a narrow 3-2 win over Mexico in their opening match, setting up an intriguing contest for Gabon in their next game. The Panthers will face Japan on Friday, aiming to bounce back and gain valuable experience in the competition.
Despite the tough start, Gabon’s debut in the Sud Ladies Cup provides an important platform for the team to develop and test themselves against strong international opposition.
