South African coach Rulani Mokwena has explained why he accepted MC Alger’s coaching job.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca trainer was appointed as the new head coach of the Algerian club, replacing Khaled Ben Yahia, who departed the club at the expiration of his contract.
Ben Yahia had been in charge of the Algerian club since March 2023, leading them to the league title in the 2023/24 season.
However, Mokwena, who recently took the helm at MC Alger, has now shed light on his decision.
“After Wydad, we sat down and debriefed with my agent. We analyzed everything — my mistakes, his mistakes, the club’s mistakes — because we all felt we could have won when we went to Wydad.
So of course, an analysis and self-assessment were necessary, and after that, we outlined some career goals. This team seems to align with many of them,” Mokwena explained.
As head coach of Sundowns, Mokwena won three league titles, the inaugural African Football League, and the Nedbank Cup.
