South African Premier League: Stellenbosch edge Golden Arrows in seven-goal thriller
Matchday 10 of the South African Premier League delivered drama, goals and tactical intrigue on Wednesday, as Stellenbosch triumphed in a thrilling 4–3 contest against Golden Arrows, Orlando Pirates edged Polokwane City, and Kaizer Chiefs were held to a frustrating draw by Siwelele.
At the FNB Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs and Siwelele (Bloemfontein Celtic) shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate that offered more discipline than creativity.
Both teams displayed impressive defensive structure, leaving little room for attacking breakthroughs.
Despite the Chiefs dominating possession and Siwelele threatening on the counter, the first half ended without clear chances.
The second period followed a similar pattern — long-range efforts flew high or wide, and both defences stood firm.
Chiefs pressed late in search of a winner, but Siwelele’s compact shape denied them space, ensuring the points were split evenly.
The result, while disappointing for Amakhosi supporters, reflected the tactical caution that defined the contest.
Elsewhere, Orlando Pirates made the most of an early advantage to secure a narrow 1–0 victory over Polokwane City.
The Buccaneers struck in the sixth minute and spent much of the game managing their lead.
Their early goal forced Polokwane to take more risks, but the Pirates’ back line, marshalled with discipline, absorbed sustained pressure throughout the second half.
Polokwane’s wide play created several promising openings, yet they struggled to find the final pass or finishing touch to beat the well-organised Pirates defence.
The Soweto giants held firm to claim all three points — a result built on control rather than attacking flair.
However, the night’s standout spectacle came from the encounter between Stellenbosch and Golden Arrows, a match that delivered end-to-end action from start to finish.
Langelihle Phili opened the scoring for Stellenbosch in the 24th minute, only for Luthando Ndlovu to level for Arrows just before halftime.
The second half produced a flurry of goals. Andre De Jong restored the hosts’ lead shortly after the restart, before Junior Dion equalised for Arrows in the 54th minute.
De Jong struck again on the hour mark to make it 3–2, and Isaac Cissé reignited Arrows’ hopes with a 73rd-minute equaliser.
But Muzomuhle Khanyi had the final say three minutes later, sealing Stellenbosch’s pulsating 4–3 win — a match that will be remembered for its relentless attacking rhythm and dramatic swings in momentum.
The latest round of fixtures left contrasting emotions across the league — relief for Pirates, frustration for Chiefs, and jubilation for Stellenbosch, whose thrilling victory stood as the highlight of an unforgettable midweek.
