South African outfit Kaizer Chiefs has set sights on securing the services of Nigeria goalkeeper Japhet Opubo in the ongoing transfer window.

The Soweto giants are in the market searching for quality players to augment their squad for the 2025/26 football campaign, following an inconsistent performance, particularly in the South African top-flight.

Despite ending their 10-year trophy drought, Kaizer Chiefs finished out of the top eight in the South African league, promotion major squad overhaul for the next campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs were unimpressed with the performance of goalkeeping trio of Fiacre Ntwari, Bruce Bvuma, and Brandon Petersen.

However, the club has set sights on securing the signature of Opubo, who is the books of Nigeria Premier League shot stopper Lobi Stars.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is a first-class shot stopper who has made a name for himself in Nigeria over the past few seasons.

With his wealth of experience, he could be a great addition to Kaizer Chiefs. His representatives are weighing their options, and there’s a chance he could be offered to Amakhosi club.

This season, Opubo has kept two clean sheets in 12 Nigerian Premier League matches, and in the CAF Champions League, he matched that feat in four games.
