South African midfielder Lehlogonolo George Matlo has opened up about his future at Kaizer Chiefs as he nears the expiration of his contract.
The 26-year-old’s current contract with the Soweto giants will elapse in June 2025, sparking concerns about his future.
Having helped the club to end a decade trophy drought in South Africa, the talented midfielder openly expressed his desire to extend his stay at the club beyond his current contract, which expires in June 2025.
“I would love to stay at Kaizer Chiefs—it’s my priority,” Matlou told FARPost. “This club means a lot to me, and I want to achieve even more here. But right now, the focus is on finishing the season strong—maximizing points and, of course, winning the Nedbank Cup.” He said.
His dream turned into reality when Amakhosi clinched the Nedbank Cup, with Matlou’s joy spilling over into the days that followed. Videos and photos of him still wearing his matchday kit and proudly showing off his winner’s medal at the airport went viral, capturing the hearts of fans.
George Matlo has 14 appearances across competitions for Kaizer Chiefs this season, delivering two assists across the period.
