South African midfielder Lebohang Maboe set to mark Kaizer Chiefs debut in Confederation Cup
South African international Lebohang Maboe is expected to mark his debut for Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Confederation Cup this weekend.
Maboe joined the Soweto giants as a free agent in the summer after exiting the defunct SuperSport United. Since joining the club, the midfielder has yet to make an appearance for the club.
The 31-year-old midfielder now look set to make his first competitive appearance for Kaizer Chiefs, having been included in the clubs traveling squad for the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round clash to be staged in DR Congo.
In a high-stake clash this weekend, Kaizer Chiefs will take on AS Samba in an away clash as both teams battle to secure a place in the group stages.
The midfielder’s international experience could come in handy for Chiefs as they seek to return to continental glory after winning last season’s Nedbank Cup.
Maboe arrived with many new faces this season including striker Khanyisa Mayo who also makes the trip to DRC having missed the previous CAF duel in Angola.
Kaizer Chiefs progressed to the second round of the prelims to set up a tie against AS Samba after triumphing over Kabuscorp of Angola on penalties in the first preliminary round.
