South African outfit Orlando Pirates have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach, AfricaSoccer.com can report.
The former Wydad Casablanca tactician is set to take over the Soweto giants following the departure of Jose Riveiro at the end of the campaign. The Spanish gaffer left the South African giants to join Egyptian powerhouse, Al Ahly.
Pirates have reached an agreement with Mokwena and are currently finalizing details for his appointment. The Soweto giants will in the comings days announce the appointment of the 38-year-old coach.
Mokwena departed Wydad Casablanca in March after a string of unimpressive results in the Moroccan top-flight.
Pirates are eager to seal the deal as quickly as possible to give the coach ample time to prepare for the club’s pre-season tour in Spain.
His imminent appointment marks his return to Orlando Pirates, having served as assistant to Milutin Sredojević and Josef Zinnbauer at the club from 2017 to 2019 and again in 2019-2020.
When the Serbian coach was dismissed in August 2019, Mokwena stepped up as interim head coach of the Buccaneers.
