Orlando Pirates sign three new players

South African champions, Orlando Pirates, have announced the acquisition of Neo Rapoo, Aphiwe Baliti and Matome Mmolai as the club continue to reinforce their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The latest additions form part of a broader strategy to build depth, maintain competitiveness across multiple competitions, and invest in some of South Africa’s most promising young talents as they prepare for another demanding season.

Orlando Pirates is expected to compete on several fronts, including the defence of their domestic league title and participation in continental football, making squad rotation and depth a key priority for head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Neo Rapoo joins Orlando Pirates from Siwelele FC as one of the most highly rated young full-backs in the domestic game.

The 20-year-old left-back is a product of SuperSport United’s development system and has already gained valuable experience at youth international level with South Africa.

Rapoo is regarded as a modern full-back, comfortable in both defensive duties and attacking transitions. His ability to push forward, deliver quality in wide areas, and recover quickly in defensive transitions is expected to add a new dimension to Pirates’ left side.

Also arriving from Siwelele FC is 24-year-old defender Aphiwe Baliti, who strengthens the Buccaneers’ defensive depth with his versatility and tactical flexibility.

Naturally a left-back, Baliti is also capable of operating on the right side of defence, giving the technical team additional options across the back line.

Known for his athleticism, work rate and growing experience in top-flight football, Baliti is viewed as a reliable squad addition who can step into multiple roles when needed.

However, Pirates confirmed that Baliti will immediately return to Siwelele FC on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign. The decision is aimed at ensuring consistent game time and continued development before he fully integrates into the Buccaneers’ long-term plans.

Completing the trio is 23-year-old midfielder Matome Mmolai, who arrives from Leicesterford City to add energy and depth to Pirates’ midfield department.

Mmolai is described as a dynamic and technically assured midfielder who is comfortable in possession and capable of influencing play in different phases of the game. His versatility allows him to contribute both defensively and in build-up situations, making him a valuable tactical option.

His arrival is expected to increase competition in the middle of the park as Pirates prepare for a congested fixture schedule next season.

Alongside the new arrivals, the club also confirmed several outgoing moves as part of its squad restructuring.

Gomolemo Khoto and Siyabonga Ndlozi have both completed permanent transfers to Sekhukhune United, bringing their time at Orlando Pirates to an end.

Meanwhile, right-back Tshepho Mashiloane will also return to Babina Noko on a season-long loan, further opening space in the squad for new and emerging talent.

The latest transfer activity highlights Orlando Pirates’ continued focus on long-term squad planning, blending youth development with competitive ambition.

With expectations high ahead of the new season, the Buccaneers are aiming to maintain their domestic dominance while also building a squad capable of challenging more consistently in continental competition.

Further transfer activity is still expected as the club finalises preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
