South Africa will host Panama at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this Friday at 18:00 GMT in the opening fixture of their FIFA Series 2026 friendly matches.

The encounter marks a key moment for Bafana Bafana as they resume international action following an early exit in the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Hugo Broos intends to use the match to evaluate squad depth, giving game time to players who have seen limited minutes while resting others returning from long journeys.

“This is a decisive test for us,” Broos said, emphasizing the importance of regaining competitiveness. “We want to see a team that plays with intensity, discipline, and determination, especially after the AFCON disappointment.”

Panama, preparing for their 2026 World Cup campaign where they share a group with Ghana, will also use the fixture to assess their squad.

Under coach Thomas Christiansen, the Canaleros are focusing on high pressing, rapid counter-attacks, and rotating players to integrate new arrivals into the team.

A second friendly between the two sides is scheduled for 31 March at the DHL Stadium, giving both teams further opportunity to fine-tune tactics ahead of the World Cup.

Both matches are expected to provide valuable insights for coaches and fans alike, offering a competitive platform to test strategies and assess player readiness ahead of the global tournament.
