Senzo Meyiwa to Be Laid to Rest on November 1 in Umlazi
Tragic news continues to send shockwaves through South African football as preparations are made for the funeral of Senzo Meyiwa, the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper who was killed during a burglary on Sunday.
Meyiwa will be buried on November 1 in Umlazi, his home village near Durban.
Earlier this week, Orlando Pirates founding president Dr. Irvin Khoza, along with Premier Senzo Mchunu, ANC official Sihle Zikalala, and other dignitaries, visited Meyiwa’s family in a show of support.
“Senzo is like my son,” said Dr. Khoza. “He joined the Pirates’ team at a young age.”
The decision regarding the burial arrangements was taken jointly by Meyiwa’s family, the South African Football Association (SAFA), and Premier Soccer League (PSL) officials.
The entire nation remains in mourning, as tributes continue to pour in for a player who had become a national hero both on and off the pitch.
