South Africa forward Cassius Mailula eyes Bafana Bafana return after KV Kortrijk switch

South African international Cassius Mailula is eyeing a sensational return to the Bafana Bafana squad after switching to at KV Kortrijk.

Mailula arrived in Belgium to begin his career at KV Kortrijk last week after switching from the Major League Soccer, where he featured for Toronto FC.

During his spell with the MLS side, the South African attacker was farmed out on loan, featuring for Wydad Casablanca last season.

With his wealth of experience, the forward is expected to play a huge role for Kortrijk in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star, who has lost his place in the national team has set sights on making a return to the team following his move to Europe.

“The team will help me to get back to the national team, Bafana Bafana,” the former Sundowns striker said.

Cassius Mailula made the move to Toronto from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2023 for €1.5 million.

Last season, Mailula played on loan at Moroccan club Wydad, where he featured in 36 matches, scoring 6 goals and providing 7 assists. He was part of the squad that featured at the FIFA Club World Cup tournament in the USA.

The 24-year-old has made just two appearances for the South African national team since making his debut in 2023.
