South Africa Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan has been released from detention after meeting the bail requirement of R20,000 following his arrest on Wednesday.
Jordaan was arrested and arraigned before the Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, over allegations of financial misappropriation of R1.3 million, which purportedly involved the misuse of SAFA’s funds for unauthorized personal security and public relations services between 2014 and 2018.
Jordaan’s release comes with strict conditions to ensure his accountability and cooperation with the ongoing judicial proceedings.
One significant stipulation of the ruling allows him to retain his passport, acknowledging his international commitments. However, this privilege includes firm restrictions.
Jordaan is prohibited from missing court appearances under the guise of his commitments, reinforcing the court’s expectation that the legal process takes precedence over his professional obligations.
To ensure transparency and prevent any misuse of this privilege, Jordaan is required to inform judicial authorities of any intended travel plans at least 72 hours in advance.
Each trip must be for official purposes, ruling out any personal excursions during this period.
Additionally, Jordaan must provide a comprehensive itinerary for every trip.
These measures are designed to balance his professional needs with the demands of the justice system, ensuring his movements are closely monitored.
