Samukele Kabini happy with first South Africa goal

South Africa defender Samukele Kabini has expressed his delight after scoring his maiden goal for the Bafana Bafana in their 2-1 victory over Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena.

The former TS Galaxy defender proved to be the match-winner for Pitso Mosimane’s side, finding the decisive goal to complete South Africa’s comeback and secure victory in the international friendly.

For Kabini, the goal represented a memorable moment in his young international career, particularly because he had not expected to find himself on the scoresheet.

The defender admitted that he was overwhelmed with excitement when the ball found the back of the net, describing the moment as one he could hardly believe.

“I was so excited, I won’t lie, I wasn’t expecting that to happen,” Kabini told iDiski Times.

“So when I scored, I was so excited, I couldn’t believe it.”

Kabini also revealed that Mosimane has been placing emphasis on teamwork and making the right decisions in possession since taking charge of the national team.

The Bafana Bafana coach has encouraged his players to move the ball intelligently, particularly when passing options become limited, while making sure teammates are found in better positions.

Kabini explained that Mosimane’s instructions have been centred on making the team more effective in possession rather than forcing individual plays.

“When Coach Pitso came in, he was like the best thing to do for the team to win, pass the ball to each other when you see angles are tight,” he said.

“You need to give it to your teammate in better positions or it’s easier for them to score.”

The victory over Guinea therefore provided Kabini with both a personal milestone and an important confidence boost as he continues to establish himself in the national team setup.

Scoring the winning goal against Guinea could further strengthen his case for regular involvement under Mosimane, while the defender will also take encouragement from the trust shown in him by the Bafana Bafana coach.

For Mosimane, the result offered another opportunity to assess his squad and implement his footballing ideas as South Africa continue their preparations for upcoming competitive assignments.
