Pitso Mosimane makes emotional return to Al Ahly

South Africa head coach Pitso Mosimane made an emotional return to former club Al Ahly as he prepares Bafana Bafana for their friendly clash against Egypt.

Mosimane used his presence in Cairo to visit Al Ahly’s headquarters, where he was warmly welcomed by club board members Tarek Kandil and Sayed Abdel Hafeez.

The South African coach toured the Red Castle and visited the iconic Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium, a venue that brought back memories of his successful spell in charge of the Egyptian giants.

Mosimane was accompanied by members of his current technical team, including South Africa goalkeeping coach Marcus Mashilo, Kabelo Rangoaga and Musi Matlaba, who previously worked with him during his time at Al Ahly.

During the visit, Mosimane expressed his delight at returning to the club, stressing that Al Ahly continues to hold a special place in his heart.

His return to the Al Jazeera headquarters and Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium also gave him the opportunity to reminisce about his time with the club, including his relationship with the players, officials and supporters.

At the end of the visit, Kandil and Abdel Hafeez presented Mosimane and his staff with Al Ahly jerseys and the club’s shield.

Mosimane reciprocated the gesture by presenting South African national team jerseys to Kandil and Abdel Hafeez, underlining the cordial relationship that remains between the coach and the Egyptian club.

The visit comes as Mosimane prepares South Africa for their meeting with Egypt at Cairo International Stadium, adding an emotional dimension to his return to a club where he enjoyed a memorable period of his coaching career.
