South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane faces selection crisis

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane is facing a difficult selection dilemma ahead of South Africa’s upcoming double-header against Kenya, with several key players from Mamelodi Sundowns battling fitness concerns.

The South African tactician could be without some of his most influential players for the two encounters, with injuries affecting different departments of the squad and raising concerns over their availability.

Of particular concern are national team captain Ronwen Williams and influential midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who both missed Sundowns’ recent matches due to fitness problems.

Mokoena is reportedly struggling with a recurrence of a ligament injury sustained after returning to Sundowns from international duty, leaving his availability for the upcoming fixtures uncertain.

Williams’ situation is also being closely monitored, given his importance to the national team and his leadership responsibilities as captain.

The injury concerns extend beyond the two experienced internationals, with Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Keanu Cupido and Kegan Johannes also reportedly in the treatment room.

Defender Aubrey Modiba has previously experienced fitness problems, further adding to the growing concerns surrounding the availability of Sundowns players.

The situation presents Mosimane with a major selection challenge as he looks to assemble a competitive squad capable of delivering positive results against Kenya.

The possible absence of several established players could force the Bafana Bafana coach to consider alternative options, particularly in defence and midfield, while assessing the fitness of his key players ahead of the international assignment.

Mosimane will be hoping that the injured stars make sufficient progress in their recovery to be available for the crucial encounters, as their experience and quality could prove important to South Africa’s ambitions.

The Bafana Bafana are scheduled to host Kenya in Johannesburg on November 13 before travelling to Nairobi for the return fixture on November 17.

With both matches coming within four days, South Africa will be eager to have their strongest available squad as Mosimane prepares for his latest assignment at the helm of the national team.
