South Africa coach Hugo Broos not taking Zambia friendly for granted
Head coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos, is keen about the upcoming friendly match against Zambia as the team gear up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Bafana Bafana, who secured bronze medal in the last edition of the continental showpiece will participate in the 35th edition scheduled to take place in Morocco.
The much-anticipated tournament will be held in the North African country between December 2025 and January 2026.
As part of preparation for the AFCON, the Bafana Bafana has lined up a high-stake friendly against Chipolopolo, scheduled for this Saturday in Gqeberha
Broos is keen on securing victory against Zambia, highlighting FIFA Ranking and AFCON tournament as main reason.
“Why I want to win, first of all, it’s important for our ranking. We want to stay certainly in the first 10 even going back to nine [spot] again,” the Belgian-born coach told the media.
“Secondly, we are one month before AFCON, and it shouldn’t be not a very good thing if we should lose the game on Saturday.
“I will ask from every player, focus and concentration like we had for the qualifiers. Even it’s not the qualifiers, but I will not accept that players are taking these games as a little holiday. I want to win on Saturday.”
