South African lower-tier club, Highlands Park are in danger of relegation after it has emerged the club fielded an unqualified player in Franklin Ogbonna.
The Nigerian international reportedly used fake documents to feature for Highlands Park in the ABC Motsepe League.
Highlands Park, who recently won the SAFA Gauteng ABC Motsepe League now risk suffering relegation from the league.
Over 34 matches, Highlands Park delivered a strong performance with 26 victories, five draws, and only three losses. However, their season has been thrown into turmoil following reports the club fielded an ineligible player – an undocumented immigrant.
FARPost has obtained an affidavit from Reshigan Kistan, a Home Affairs administrative clerk, which verifies that the identification documents submitted by Ogbonna were fraudulent.
Now, Highlands Park is at serious risk of relegation. This illegal situation threatens the club with the loss of a total of 57 points, and if this decision is enforced by the law, the team will fall back to 26 points and drop to 18th place, leaving the club with only 26 points.
