In his opening speech at the CAN 2013 draw, Dr. Issa Hayatou, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), emphasized the importance of cultivating peace and fair play among all participating countries. He congratulated the teams that qualified for the final tournament, highlighting the return of Ethiopia after more than 30 years and Cape Verde’s first participation. Hayatou also acknowledged the absence of traditional football powerhouses like Cameroon and Egypt, expressing a sense of loss for the tournament without these teams. Issa Hayatou has been leading CAF since 1987.
